How overtime is calculated
Your hourly rate is annual pay divided by hours and weeks worked. Overtime hours are multiplied by your chosen rate (such as time and a half) and added to gross pay.
Why you keep less than you expect
Overtime is taxed as ordinary income: income tax at your marginal rate plus USC and PRSI. The overtime card shows exactly what you keep.
Crossing the higher rate
Overtime can lift income past the standard rate band, so part of it may be taxed at 40% plus 3% or 8% USC and PRSI.
