Frequently asked questions

How do I turn an hourly rate into a yearly salary? +

Multiply the hourly rate by your weekly hours, then by 52. At 39 hours a week, €20 an hour is €20 x 39 x 52 = €40,560 a year.

How much of my hourly pay do I keep in Ireland? +

It depends on your yearly total. You pay 20% income tax up to €44,000 (single person) and 40% above, less €4,000 of credits, plus USC and PRSI. The table shows the exact figure for each rate (2026).

Why 39 hours a week? +

A 39-hour week is the standard full-time week in many Irish contracts. If you work different hours, each rate page shows other weekly hours and the calculator takes any figure.
