From hourly rate to salary

Annual pay is your hourly rate multiplied by hours per week and weeks per year (52 by default). Federal and provincial tax, CPP/QPP and EI are then worked out on that annual figure.

Pick your province

Tax differs a lot between provinces. Choose where you live so the result uses the right brackets, credits and, for Quebec, the QPP and QPIP.

Frequently asked questions

Figures use 2026 Canadian rates. See the methodology.

How do I convert an hourly wage to an annual salary in Canada? +

Multiply the hourly rate by hours per week and by 52. For example $30 an hour for 40 hours a week is $62,400 a year before tax.

Is overtime taxed more? +

Not at a special rate, but extra pay can push income into a higher bracket, so the marginal rate on overtime can be higher than on your regular pay.

Do part-time workers pay CPP and EI? +

Yes. CPP and EI apply to employment earnings above their basic exemptions regardless of hours.
